A widow on the verge of losing her family farm, Ruth invites friends, relatives and strangers to join her on a multi-family community farm (don't call it a "commune").

Ruth's former pastor finds himself in the wilderness after a failed marriage and a revoked ministry, and convinces Ruth to open her farm to a "virtual family" which includes Josh's daughter Jessie.
